Do you remember that moment? A seventeen-year-old boy with a cool head and unmistakable energy, who silenced skeptics on the Olympic ice in Beijing and made the world talk about Slovakia. Juraj Slafkovský today he stands in the same place – but no longer as a surprise of the tournament, but as one of the most prominent names in world hockey, he writes New Time for Women.

And although his career has since moved to the NHL, one thing does not change: when it comes to Slovakia, the goal is always the same – to give the maximum.
The Olympics that changed everything
The Winter Olympic Games in Beijing 2022 were written in golden letters in the history of Slovak sports. Slafkovský scored seven goals there, became the tournament’s most valuable player and, as the team’s leader, helped win a sensational bronze medal. At a time when his peers were still dealing with school and the future, he was already standing on the Olympic podium.
“The Olympics changed my life. That’s when I realized I could compete with the best,” he recalls today with the passage of time. It was the moment that started his meteoric rise and at the same time taught him to bear responsibility.
Today, Juraj Slafkovský is one of the most watched players in the hockey tournament. The NHL experience gave him self-confidence, but the national team still has a special place for him. “The Olympics are different. You go to play for the country, not for the club. You feel that from the first substitution,” he speaks openly. There is no pathos in his words, but respect – for the jersey, for his teammates and for the fans.
Juraj Slafkovský’s success is not a coincidence. Each match has an exact rhythm and preparation from which it does not deviate. For him, routine is an anchor that keeps him in balance. “I stick to a proven system. Morning ice skating, mental preparation, game visualization and a light lunch,” describes his game day. The afternoon belongs to rest and sleep, which he considers crucial for regeneration. In his world, improvisation has no place – everything has its time and order.
Even before leaving Canada, Juraj found time for a personal gesture. He left his girlfriend Angelie a lavish bouquet dominated by roses – a simple but eloquent symbol of closeness. If the Slovak team were to succeed and fight their way into the knockout stages, they would be separated for up to two weeks. Angelie also shared this moment on social networks – a photo of a bouquet and a joint shot in a frame showed that even in the life of a professional athlete, love has its place.
