Kansas Women’s Tennis to Host Houston and UCF in Weekend Duals

LAWRENCE, Kan. – The No. 48-ranked Kansas Jayhawks women’s tennis team is set to host a pair of ranked opponents this weekend at the Jayhawk Tennis Center. Kansas will face No. 40 Houston on Friday, March 20, at 5 p.m. CT and No. 19 UCF on Sunday, March 22, at 12 p.m. CT.

The Jayhawks enter the weekend with an overall record of 7-7 and a 3-2 mark in Sizeable 12 Conference play. Kansas recently defeated No. 25 TCU 4-3 on March 13, before falling to No. 36 Baylor 4-1 on March 15. This weekend’s matches mark the third and fourth consecutive contests against ranked opponents for the Jayhawks.

Kansas recently improved its team ranking, jumping from No. 63 to No. 48 in the latest polls. The team boasts two players ranked individually: Kyoka Kubo at No. 53 in singles with a 6-4 record, and the doubles team of Kubo and Heike Janse van Vuuren, ranked No. 47 with a 4-1 record.

Van Vuuren currently holds an 8-4 singles record, having won six of her last eight matches. Meg McCarty partners with van Vuuren in doubles, posting a 5-3 record, although Kubo teams with Meriem Ben Ezzedine for a 3-1 doubles record.
