TOMORROW, Friday, Karl Plattner’s birthday, from 6 p.m. there will be a lecture evening in the South Tyrolean state parliament with contributions from art experts dedicated to the South Tyrolean artist and his work. The event is part of a series of initiatives planned to mark the 40th anniversary of the artist’s death this year.
– “My painting is created like an alphabet,” said Karl Plattner, an important South Tyrolean artist, about his work. This quote was chosen by the South Tyrolean state parliament to honor the painter from Vinschgau 40 years after his death: Under the title “Alphabet of Color”, various initiatives are organized throughout the year to commemorate the creator of the fresco that adorns a wall of the state parliament’s meeting room. The work emerged as the winner of the competition announced in 1954, the aim of which was to represent “economic and cultural progress as well as the individual landscapes of South Tyrol” where those who represent the country’s citizens come together. The first event in the series is a lecture evening about Plattner on his birthday on February 13th, at which renowned experts will provide an overview of the painter’s life and work as well as his artistic career between South Tyrol, Brazil and Austria. An excursion on the trail of Plattner’s murals, which can be found in the state parliament, in the Europakapelle on the Europabrücke and in the Salzburg Festival Hall, as well as guided tours through the state parliament are planned for spring and autumn. The lecture evening “Alphabet of Color” will take place
