Kelly Slater’s Surf Ranch: A Celebrity Hotspot and Surfing Oasis

For those with the means, wave pools offer a unique escape for surfing enthusiasts. And one location, in particular, consistently attracts a high-profile clientele – from musicians and actors to royalty and political figures. That destination is the Kelly Slater Surf Ranch, situated 100 miles inland from the ocean in Lemoore, California, in the state’s Central Valley.

Kaskade Takes on the Ranch

The latest celebrity to experience the Surf Ranch is Ryan Gary Raddon, professionally known as Kaskade, a prominent figure in electronic music. Unlike some celebrity visitors who require assistance from surf coach Raimana Van Bastolaer – playfully dubbed the “human Viagra” by Cindy Crawford – Kaskade demonstrated notable surfing skills, navigating the waves without training.

A video of Kaskade surfing at the Ranch showcased his stylish bottom turns and comfortable stance, impressing fellow surfers like Kalani Robb, who expressed his surprise with clapping and astonished emojis.

The Surf Ranch Experience: Luxury and Innovation

The Kelly Slater Surf Ranch isn’t just about the wave; it’s a comprehensive experience. Located between farms and ranches, the facility boasts a 6-foot barreling wave that can travel over 2,300 feet, providing rides lasting up to a minute. The wave’s design allows for adjustable difficulty, catering to surfers of all skill levels.

Beyond the wave, the Ranch offers a clubhouse, locker rooms, an outdoor patio, a hot tub, and a fire pit for socializing. Surfers can bring their own boards or utilize the Ranch’s selection of wave-riding craft. A chef prepares nutritious meals using locally sourced, organic ingredients.

The Ranch prioritizes both performance and hospitality, with a staff dedicated to improving surfing skills, ensuring safety, and providing a positive atmosphere.

WSL Competition Venue

The Surf Ranch is a WSL (World Surf League) certified facility, capable of hosting competitive events featuring the world’s top surfers. Its programmable wave start times allow for live broadcasts to a global audience, offering unique viewing angles and thrilling action.

The Cost of Surfing Paradise

Access to this exclusive surfing experience comes at a premium. A private session at the Surf Ranch can cost between $50,000 and $70,000 per day, depending on the season. A daily per-person rate for a group of 10 surfers ranges from $5,000 to $7,000. Hourly rates are approximately $625 to $875 per person, while individual waves can cost between $425 and $575, or roughly $9.50 to $12.75 per second.

A Decade of Waves and Memories

January 2, 2026, marked the 10-year anniversary of the Surf Ranch, originally a water ski facility. Since Kelly Slater first unveiled “the perfect wave” in December 2015, the Ranch has generated over 2,000 waves (rights only) and has continued to operate while other wave pool systems have closed. The Kelly Slater Wave Company design has expanded internationally, with locations in Abu Dhabi and plans for Austin.

As one of the few wave pool systems still in operation, the Surf Ranch continues to evolve, offering a unique surfing oasis for both seasoned professionals and first-time wave riders.
