Kate O’Connor of Ireland has claimed the bronze medal in the pentathlon at the World Indoor Athletics Championships in Poland, solidifying her status as a consistent force in multi-event competitions. The 25-year-old Dundalk athlete achieved a national record points tally of 4,839, a testament to her dedication and resilience.

O’Connor, who previously won silver at the 2025 World Championships, expressed a mix of pride and ambition following her performance. “I came here with really high expectations for myself and even though I got a bronze medal and I was ultimately looking for more, I can’t complain,” she told BBC Sport. “I’ve had the year of dreams and I continue to build.” She acknowledged the progress in her points score, viewing it as a positive sign for the upcoming outdoor season.

She also noted dealing with stress, even experiencing a stye in her eye leading up to the competition.

With a modern Irish record and another global medal under her belt, Kate O’Connor is poised for continued success. “Hopefully, I’ll just continue building,” she added. “I think that the sky’s the limit for me.”
