Taj Atwal Admits She Didn’t Know ‘Bridgerton‘ Was a Big Deal During Audition
actor Taj Atwal has revealed she mistakenly believed she was auditioning for a school play when she initially tried out for Bridgerton.Atwal, who plays Prudence Featherington in the popular Netflix series, explained she was relatively new to acting and unfamiliar with the show’s massive cultural impact.
“I genuinely didn’t know what Bridgerton was,” Atwal confessed in an interview with The Guardian. “I thought it was a school play. I remember going in and thinking, ‘Oh, this is a bit posh.’ I was so new to the industry, I didn’t understand the scale of it.”
She continued, “I remember reading the character description and thinking, ‘Oh, she’s a bit of a snob.’ I didn’t realize how iconic the show was going to be. I just thought it was a nice little job.”
Atwal’s candid admission highlights the often-surreal experience of actors landing roles in unexpectedly triumphant projects. Bridgerton, based on Julia Quinn’s novels, quickly became a global phenomenon upon its release in 2020, known for its lavish costumes, diverse cast, and steamy romance. The series has as spawned two seasons and a spin-off, Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story.
Despite her initial lack of awareness, Atwal has embraced her role as Prudence Featherington and become a recognizable face in the Bridgerton ensemble.
