Kelly Slater Responds to Claims of Being a Shapeshifting ‘Fallen Angel’

Surfing legend Kelly Slater has addressed a bizarre conspiracy theory circulating online that claims he is a shapeshifting “fallen angel,” and is also secretly Robert F. Kennedy Jr. And actor Mel Gibson. The theory, popularized by social media influencer Tyler Hansen, known online as the “Fittest Flat Earther,” has gained traction, prompting a response from the 11-time world champion.

The Conspiracy Theory

Hansen alleges that Slater, along with athletes like Michael Phelps, are not what they seem. His claims center around perceived “key Kelly insignia” such as Slater throwing up the “devil horns” hand gesture, his exceptional surfing talent, and snake logos featured on his surfboards from the 1980s. Hansen further asserts that Slater and Kennedy are shapeshifters capable of altering their appearance, even claiming they can transform into Mel Gibson, citing similarities in freckles and scars.

Slater’s Response

Slater responded to the claims on social media, calling the video “the funniest” ever made about him. He questioned the logic of being simultaneously himself, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., and Mel Gibson, and pointed out a factual inaccuracy in Hansen’s analysis – stating he does not have the scar identified in the video.

“You got so triggered with me showing you a video of the earth shadow going up the clouds you had to function all day for this? That’s commendable,” Slater wrote. “I will say I’m totally confused on what any of what you’re saying even means though. The only clear thing to me is there are a lot of crazy people in these comments. Wild times.”

Slater’s Legendary Career

Throughout his career, Kelly Slater has achieved numerous remarkable feats. These include a standout session at Soup Bowls in Campaign 2, a 540-degree air reverse in Portugal in 2014, and a perfect heat at Teahupo’o, Tahiti in 2005. Footage of his perfect 10 at Teahupo’o demonstrates his exceptional skill. In May 2005, at the Billabong Tahiti Pro, Slater became the first surfer to be awarded two perfect scores (a total of 20 out of 20) under the ASP two-wave scoring system.

Recent Concerns for Teahupo’o

Despite the lighthearted response to the conspiracy theory, Slater recently expressed concern over the devastating flooding in Teahupo’o, Tahiti. He shared a video of the catastrophic flooding on his Instagram story, urging his followers to contribute to relief efforts for the affected residents. Teahupo’o is currently experiencing its highest rainfall in 20 years, causing widespread damage and displacement.
