Kennesaw State University Appoints Darryl Ahner as Dean of College of Computing and Software Engineering
KENNESAW, Ga. – Kennesaw State University (KSU) has named Darryl Ahner as the new dean of its College of Computing and Software Engineering (CCSE), effective July 1, 2026. The appointment was announced on March 16, 2026 by Kennesaw State University.
Leadership Experience
Ahner currently serves as dean of the College of Engineering and Computer Science at Wright State University. During his three-year tenure there, he focused on strengthening student success, increasing enrollment, and fostering research innovation. Initiatives included targeted academic support programs, a new engineering technology pathway, and expanded industry partnerships through the Work Forward Internships Program.
Vision for KSU’s CCSE
KSU President Kathy S. Schwaig stated that Ahner’s “exceptional record of scholarship, innovation, and service makes him an outstanding choice” to lead the CCSE. His leadership is expected to position Kennesaw State at the forefront of emerging technologies and prepare students for careers in the rapidly evolving technology landscape.
New AI Program and National Ranking
Ahner will lead a highly regarded college that consistently ranks among the best in the nation for programs such as information technology, software engineering, and game design. This fall, the CCSE will launch a bachelor’s degree in artificial intelligence, making Kennesaw State the first university in Georgia to offer both undergraduate and graduate degrees in AI.
Previous Roles and Accomplishments
Prior to Wright State, Ahner held leadership positions at the Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT), including dean for research and founding director of the Department of Defense’s Scientific Test and Analysis Techniques Center of Excellence. His work at AFIT expanded the research portfolio, secured increased funding, built technical partnerships, and modernized defense technology testing and evaluation.
Ahner also directed the Army Research Laboratory Mathematical Sciences Center of Excellence at the United States Military Academy and has advised numerous master’s and doctoral researchers. He has received awards including the Office of the Secretary of Defense Medal for Exceptional Civilian Service and the International Test and Evaluation Association’s Lifetime Achievement Award.
