A conservative researcher whose theories have been repeatedly rejected by Georgia election inspectors is emerging as a central figure in the investigation that culminated in the FBI’s seizure of 2020 voter records in Fulton County. This is Kevin Moncla, a man whose past raises disturbing questions about the credibility of the sources that feed the most radical wing of the movement linked to Donald Trump.
Moncla spent years trying to prove that the 2020 vote in Fulton County was tainted by fraud. Although many of his claims have been discredited or refuted by the facts, they have continued to be cited by the former president and figures close to him, such as the lawyer Cleta Mitchell, known for her role in trying to overturn the outcome of the previous presidential elections. Recently, Moncla admitted to being interviewed by government investigators, to whom he allegedly provided the data underlying his complaints.
Moncla’s personal profile casts a sinister light on his activity as a researcher who in 2004 pleaded guilty to a crime of voyeurism in Florida. Court records reveal that Moncla secretly filmed his then-wife and her guests in the bathroom of his home through ceiling vents. The victims include a couple and their two young children, who were filmed without their knowledge while they were staying at his home. For these facts, a jury sentenced him to pay $3.25 million in damages.
The involvement of a man with such a record in one of the most sensitive election investigations in the United States raises questions about the legitimacy of the FBI’s action. Legal experts argue that if the search warrant was based on already widely debunked theories provided by a person with such a past, the “probable cause” necessary for the operation would be lacking.
Moncla’s case seems to be part of a broader and worrying picture that affects the circle of Trump’s most ardent supporters. The reference to sexual scandals and the involvement of minors, which brings to mind the events linked to the Epstein case, appears as a recurring and current problem among some of the protagonists who gravitate around the Trumpian universe, putting to the test the ethical stability of the narratives brought forward by these activists.
