Kings Defeat Clippers 118-109, Kawhi Leonard Exits with Injury
INGLEWOOD, Calif. – The Sacramento Kings secured a 118-109 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers on Saturday night, fueled by a strong offensive performance and led by DeMar DeRozan’s 27 points. The win marks the Kings’ third in their last four games as they continue to improve after a challenging stretch earlier in the season.
DeRozan Leads the Way, Kings’ Frontcourt Dominates
DeMar DeRozan spearheaded the Kings’ attack, while Precious Achiuwa contributed a significant double-double with 25 points and 13 rebounds. Maxime Raynaud added 23 points to the Kings’ total. Russell Westbrook showcased his versatility with 12 points, 12 rebounds, and 10 assists, achieving his 209th career triple-double.
Sacramento’s frontcourt proved particularly effective, with DeRozan, Achiuwa, and Raynaud combining for an impressive 32-of-40 shooting performance.
Leonard’s Injury Impacts Clippers
Kawhi Leonard led the Clippers with 31 points, setting a new franchise record with his 45th consecutive game scoring at least 20 points, surpassing Bob McAdoo’s record from the 1974-75 season. But, Leonard’s night was cut short in the fourth quarter when he suffered a sprained left ankle. He did not return to the game, and his status for future games remains uncertain.
Darius Garland added 25 points and Bennedict Mathurin contributed 24 for the Clippers, who saw their four-game winning streak arrive to an end.
Kings Control the Game from the Second Quarter
The game was closely contested early on, tied at 39 with 7:04 remaining in the second quarter. However, the Kings took control from that point forward, building a substantial lead. Sacramento led 68-54 at halftime and extended their advantage to 90-70 late in the third quarter.
Despite a late surge from the Clippers, who narrowed the deficit to 103-100 in the fourth quarter, the Kings closed out the game strong, outscoring Los Angeles 15-9 down the stretch.
Shooting Efficiency and Upcoming Schedule
The Kings finished the game shooting 58.5% from the floor, while the Clippers shot 46.4%. Sacramento’s only road game in a 10-game stretch resulted in a victory, improving their record to 3-3 during this period.
The Kings will return home to face the Utah Jazz on Sunday, March 15th, followed by games against the San Antonio Spurs on March 17th, the Philadelphia 76ers on March 19th, and the Brooklyn Nets on March 22nd. They will then travel to Charlotte to play the Hornets on March 24th.
