The visit to China of the former US Secretary of State Henry Kissingerreceived as a reliable “old friend”, can be considered a positive sign to help mend battered bilateral relations, although Beijing continues to insist that Washington must change your policies.
Kissinger met today in Beijing with the Chinese president, Xi Jinpingin the Diaoyutai Guest House, a former imperial garden where some heads of state they usually spend the night and meet with the leaders of the Asian giant.
A reception that contrasts with the one that had the Secretary of the Treasury, Janet Yellen, or the special envoy for Climate Affairs, John Kerry, who they did not talk with Xi during his recent trips to the Chinese capital.
However, for Xi Kissinger’s visit was “of special importance“, emphasizing that he has celebrated his 100th birthday and has visited the country on more than 100 occasions: “The combination of these ‘two hundred’ makes it meaningful,” he said.
For his part, the former Secretary of State expressed his “honor for visiting China again”, in the same location where he met with Chinese leaders for the first time, and also stressed that the relationship between the two countries is related to “world peace and the progress of human society”.
