BAFTA Longlist: Kneecap and The Apprentice Shine at 2025 Nominations
The 2025 British Academy Film Awards (BAFTAs) longlist is here, and Irish cinema is making a strong showing! Two standout films, Kneecap and The Apprentice, have landed notable mentions across multiple categories.
Kneecap, a music biopic about the acclaimed Belfast rap trio, has earned a remarkable seven longlist nods, including Outstanding British Film, Outstanding Debut by a British Writer, Director or Producer, Film not in English Language, Original Screenplay, Casting, and Editing. This follows a triumphant sweep at the British Independent Film Awards (BIFA) in December, where the film picked up seven awards. It was also recently shortlisted for Best International Feature Film at the Oscars.
The Apprentice, an Irish production from Tailored Films starring Sebastian Stan as Donald Trump, has also been longlisted six times, including Stan himself in the Leading Actor category.
Another acclaimed Irish production, The Outrun starring Saoirse Ronan, has received seven longlist nominations. It received nods for Ronan’s performance as Leading Actress, Outstanding British Film, Director, Adapted Screenplay, and Original Score. Ronan also received another longlist nomination for Leading Actress for her role in the wartime drama Blitz. Blitz itself received seven longlist nominations, including Outstanding British Film and Original Score.
Clodagh, directed by Portia A. Buckley and starring Bríd Ní Neachtain and Katelyn Rose Downey, received a longlist nomination for Best British Short Film.

Taking the top spot for longlist nominations is the Spanish-language musical thriller Emilia Pérez*, starring Selena Gomez, with a remarkable 15 nods. Close behind, the Vatican thriller Conclave* follows with 14 nominations.
The road to the 2025 BAFTAs continues with BAFTA’s voting members now selecting the final nominees from the longlist in each category. The nominations announcement is set for January 15th, with the award ceremony taking place on February 16th.
