An attack on a kindergarten in the Chinese town of Lianjiangin the province of Canton (southeast), today left at least six dead and one injured, reported the local press.
According to The Paper newspaper, citing testimonies from local residents, a man arrived at a nursery carrying a knife, with which he attacked a child and two adults at the entrance before heading inside.
The local Police limited itself to explaining in a statement that a 25-year-old man with the last name Wu and a resident of the town perpetrated an “intentional attack” at 7.40 this Monday (23.40 GMT on Sunday) and who is in custody.
A news outlet, Dafeng News, quoted by AP, said that the assailant’s son had previously been hit by the car of one of the people killed at school. On its website, Dafeng News cited videos on the internet that it said showed a man with a knife walking past the courtyard of the kindergarten. Another video showed at least four people in a pool of blood outside the building, she said.
The authorities did not provide information on the age or identity of the victims, although according to some local media, it is not ruled out that children are among the deceased and some say that the victims are a teacher, two parents and three minors.
