Czech Republic Sets Sights on Eliminating Troy Parrott in World Cup Play-Off
Prague – Czechia manager Miroslav Koubek has outlined his team’s strategy to neutralize the threat of Republic of Ireland striker Troy Parrott ahead of Thursday’s World Cup play-off semi-final. Koubek emphasized the need to “eliminate” Parrott, acknowledging the forward’s excellent form for both club, and country.
Parrott has been instrumental in Ireland’s qualification for the play-offs, scoring five goals in two games last November against Portugal and Hungary . His recent performance includes a goal and an assist for AZ Alkmaar in a 4-0 UEFA Conference League win over Slavia Prague, further demonstrating his current form .
Koubek Praises Parrott, Details Strategy
Speaking at a pre-match press conference, Koubek was complimentary of the 22-year-old Dubliner. “Parrott, he is outstanding, he is doing great, he is exceptionally fit. We know how he works, we do have some info, so now it will all be about eliminating him in a smart way. So we will just have to stop him,” Koubek stated .
Dismissing Claims of ‘Primitive’ Irish Style
Koubek addressed and refuted suggestions that he had previously described the Irish playing style as “primitive.” He firmly denied making such a statement, attributing the claim to potential translation errors. “I never said anything about that. Maybe you used Google Translate. I never said anything about being primitive,” Koubek responded . He added, “I think there must be some noise. You definitely have some great players. I never said your game style was primitive, (and) please don’t put words in my mouth.”
Captaincy Change for Czech Republic
Ahead of the match, the Czech Republic confirmed a change in captaincy. Wolves defender Ladislav Krejci will succeed Tomas Soucek as captain . Soucek was stripped of the captaincy following criticism of the team for not acknowledging supporters after a 6-0 win over Gibraltar last November.
Koubek described Krejci as a “born leader” and an “uncomplicated choice” for the role . Krejci expressed his excitement and determination to lead the team to World Cup qualification.
Tactical Approach and Opponent Analysis
Koubek downplayed expectations of significant tactical surprises, acknowledging the maturity and efficiency of Heimir Hallgrimsson’s Irish team. “Obviously, we analyse our opponent, their game plan is mature and smart, efficient, they will not let us surprise them, we will attempt to do so anyway, we will see how it goes,” he said .
The match between Czechia and the Republic of Ireland will be held on Thursday and broadcast on RTÉ2 and RTÉ Player, starting at 7pm .
