Disappointing Sprint Performance for Skistad at recent Ski Competition

Norwegian cross-country skier Johanna Skistad experienced a setback in a recent sprint competition, failing to advance beyond the second heat despite a strong performance the previous week. The event, which took place on December 5, 2025, saw Skistad struggle with positioning and ultimately being eliminated from contention.

Skistad, who had previously earned a notable victory in the sprint premiere at Ruka last weekend, attributed her difficulties to a lack of preparedness for close-quarters racing. According to reports from NRK and SVT Sport, she stated she wasn’t anticipating being boxed in and accepted responsibility for the resulting inattentiveness. Specifically, Skistad entered the race at an unfavorable angle, requiring her to maneuver around a cone and inadvertently positioning herself near competitor Jasmi Joensuu, who ultimately won the heat.

The challenges continued as Jonna Sundling mounted a strong finish, narrowly edging out Skistad by just three hundredths of a second. This placed Skistad in third position, insufficient to qualify as a lucky loser and advance further in the competition. Skistad was 22nd in the prologue.

“I don’t know what happened when Jonna Sundling arrived, but it was demanding to strike,” Skistad commented to SVT Sport, indicating the difficulty of responding to Sundling’s late surge.

This result contrasts sharply with Skistad’s success at Ruka, where she demonstrated her sprinting prowess. While the recent competition proved disappointing, her earlier win underscores her potential as a formidable competitor on the cross-country skiing circuit.
