Hays County Residents Protest ICE Operations, Express Concerns Over Force and Family Separation
Kyle, TX – A demonstration took place outside Kyle’s town hall on Monday afternoon, as residents gathered to protest recent immigration operations conducted in Hays County. The protest, organized by the immigrant rights advocacy group helping Hand, drew attendees who voiced concerns over the impact of these operations on local immigrant families.
Demonstrators expressed outrage over reports and videos circulating on social media appearing to show excessive force used by ICE agents during recent arrests. The operations have reportedly instilled fear within the immigrant community.
“I come here because I want to speak for those who cannot,” stated Andrea Ramirez, a protester at the event. “It’s a very sad situation. There are many young people and immigrant parents who are going through this and need support.”
Concerns were also raised regarding potential cooperation between Hays County authorities and ICE, despite the county not being legally required to do so. Protesters highlighted instances in other Texas counties and cities where local authorities have voluntarily aided federal immigration enforcement.
Natalie Avedano, Director of Equity for Immigrants at Helping Hand, emphasized that the protest aimed to do more than simply send a message to authorities. Community members also offered support to families affected by the operations, including assistance with childcare and transportation to school.
