La Dani: From Red Carpet to Razor’s Edge
Daniel Fernández Pozo, known affectionately as La Dani in the entertainment world, is a master of reinvention. The 33-year-old, born and raised in Málaga, Spain, defies easy categorization. Singer, actor, award winner, and now, soon-to-be barber – La Dani is carving a unique and multifaceted path for themselves within the Spanish entertainment scene.
La Dani’s foray into the spotlight began with a groundbreaking achievement – becoming the first non-binary person to win the prestigious Feroz Award for Best Supporting Actor for their performance in the film "Te estoy amando locamente." This recognition not only launched La Dani into the public eye but also highlighted the need for greater inclusivity and representation in the entertainment industry.
While the acting world beckoned, La Dani felt a pull towards a more tangible craft. “Since I was a kid, I always wanted to be a hairdresser, a fashion designer, and an actor,” La Dani confessed. “I loved so many things, but I was a terrible student and never felt a clear calling.”
Post-award recognition, La Dani found themselves navigating a freelance acting landscape, unsure of their next move. “I wasn’t doing this professionally before. I’ve had some gigs, but two series a year aren’t enough to live on,” La Dani shared honestly.
That’s when the initial spark sparked into a full-fledged passion for barbering. “I started studying hairdressing over a year ago and have been working from home. Now, I’m opening my own barbershop in Malaga.”
This decision wasn’t driven by a desire to escape the spotlight or chase a safe career path. Instead, it was a response to a deeper yearning for a tangible creative outlet and a connection with the community.
“The makeup and hair department on set was always my happy place,” La Dani revealed. “If I shine in my role, it’s thanks to them. Actors aren’t as vulnerable as people think; we’re not gods.”
La Dani’s new venture, however, isn’t just about providing a good haircut. It’s about building a sense of belonging and fostering meaningful connections.
"I want a local barbershop. Acting is amazing, but if I don’t do another film, it’s okay. I’m grateful it helped me open my own shop."
With their barbershop as their steady foundation, La Dani embraces the ever-changing landscape of their career. Presenting at the Feroz Awards, once again, stands as a testament to their growing influence and their refusal to be confined by expectation.
As La Dani prepares to open their doors and welcome the first customers, one thing is clear: they’re not just cutting hair. They’re shaping a unique narrative, reminding everyone that our passions can evolve and grow, leading us towards fulfilling paths we never could have imagined.
