Lachlan Ilias: From Rabbitohs Setback to Titans Opportunity
Gold Coast Titans halfback Lachlan Ilias has overcome a significant leg injury and a challenging period at the St. George Illawarra Dragons to find a new opportunity with the Titans. The 25-year-traditional, who also represents Greece internationally, is focused on his rehabilitation and making the most of his second chance in the National Rugby League (NRL).
Early Career and South Sydney Debut
Born on May 9, 2000, in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, Lachlan Ilias initially signed a development contract with the Wests Tigers in 2017. He then transferred to the South Sydney Rabbitohs in 2018 [1]. Ilias made his NRL debut for South Sydney in round 25 of the 2021 season, scoring a try in a 20-16 victory over the St. George Illawarra Dragons [1].
Injury and Move to the Dragons
After his time with the Rabbitohs concluded, Ilias suffered a fractured leg in reserve grade following his axing from the team. Despite the setback, he remained optimistic about his recovery. He subsequently signed a deal with the St. George Illawarra Dragons, playing seven games for the club in 2025 [1].
New Beginnings with the Titans
Ilias is now with the Gold Coast Titans, viewing the move as a positive step in his career. He acknowledges the long rehabilitation process he underwent, which included having a metal rod permanently implanted in his leg, but considers it a “blessing in disguise” that has led him to prioritize his physical conditioning [1].
Focus and Resilience
Despite facing criticism and fluctuating narratives surrounding his performance, Ilias remains focused on his game. He has minimized his engagement with social media and rugby league-related news, choosing to concentrate on his close circle of support and the task at hand. He led the New South Wales Cup in line engagements with 224, scoring eight tries and producing 16 try assists and 16 linebreak assists from 20 outings for 13 wins and a draw while at the Dragons [1].
International Representation
Ilias also represents the Greek national team in rugby league, having made three appearances in 2022 [1].
