Laguindingan International Airport Gets Major Upgrade with New Concession Deal

MANILA, Philippines – The Department of Transportation (DOTr) has awarded its first unsolicited proposal under the Marcos administration, signing a 30-year concession deal with Aboitiz InfraCapital Inc. for the Laguindingan International Airport (LIA) public-private partnership project.

President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. witnessed the signing ceremony, which marks a significant step in the development of Northern Mindanao’s infrastructure.

Under the agreement, Aboitiz InfraCapital will take over the operation, upgrade, expand, and maintain the Laguindingan airport in Misamis Oriental for the duration of the concession period.

Boosting Capacity and Connectivity

The project is designed in two phases to accommodate the increasing demand for air travel in the region.

Phase One will focus on:

  • Reconfiguring existing terminal spaces to enhance processing capacity.
  • Constructing a new passenger terminal building.
  • Performing maintenance and repair work to expand airport capacity.

These improvements are expected to increase the airport’s annual passenger capacity from 1.6 million to 3.9 million.

Phase Two will further expand the airport’s capacity to 6.3 million passengers annually. The entire project is estimated to cost P12.75 billion.

Commitment to Northern Mindanao

President Marcos emphasized the significance of the concession deal, stating that it demonstrates the administration’s commitment to developing Northern Mindanao.

"This project will not only improve connectivity but also boost economic growth in the region," he said.
