Aston Martin Faces Setbacks at Sao Paulo Grand Prix
Fernando Alonso and Aston Martin endured a challenging weekend at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix, failing to score points amidst a series of setbacks. The team’s struggles began during Saturday’s Sprint, where both drivers finished towards the rear of the grid. Qualifying on Sunday morning proved equally difficult, with both Alonso and Lance Stroll crashing out in the wet conditions.
Formation Lap Crash and Race Struggles
Despite managing to repair their cars in time for the race, Aston Martin faced further misfortune. Stroll spun off during the formation lap, becoming stranded in the gravel and unable to participate. Alonso, on the other hand, initially looked on course for points but a wide moment at the final restart dropped him back to the tail end of the field.
Despite the challenges, Alonso showed resilience, recovering nearly 20 seconds to catch Zhou Guanyu and secure 14th place. However, he acknowledged that the AMR24 lacked its qualifying pace in the race.
Alonso Reflects on Difficult Race
“It was a tough race,” said Alonso. “The car was less performing in the race than in qualifying. We changed a couple of components after the crash and for sure it was not the same anymore.”
Looking Ahead to the Triple Header
With the final triple header of the season looming, Aston Martin faces the task of regrouping and finding a solution to their recent struggles. The team will be eager to bounce back and return to form in the coming races.
