A British man has tragically died and another has been left critically injured in a fall in a hotel in the Canary Islands this morning

A 56 year old British holidaymaker has tragically died in the Canary Islands after plummeting nearly 20ft when a hotel railing ‘collapsed’.
Another British man was also seriously injured in the incident, which occurred at the Hotel Best Jacaranda in Costa Teguise, Lanzarote, at around 10am this morning.He is currently receiving treatment in hospital, and his condition is described as critical.
Local reports suggest the two men were on a balcony when the railing gave way. Emergency services rushed to the scene, but the 56-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.
A spokesperson for the Civil Guard confirmed: “We are investigating the death of a 56-year-old British man following a fall from a balcony at a hotel in Costa Teguise. Another British man was injured and has been taken to hospital.
“Initial investigations suggest a railing on the balcony collapsed. We are carrying out a full examination to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.”
The hotel has not yet commented on the incident. The Foreign, Commonwealth & Advancement office (FCDO) has been contacted for comment.
A spokesperson for the FCDO said: “We are aware of the death of a British man in lanzarote and are providing assistance to his family.We are also aware of a British man who has been injured and are providing support.”
