LATAM Airlines Boosts Amsterdam-São Paulo Route to Six Weekly Flights

Barely a month after announcing its entry into the Dutch market, LATAM Airlines Brasil has upgraded its forthcoming São Paulo (Guarulhos)–Amsterdam route from four to six weekly rotations even before the inaugural flight on March 30, 2026. The adjustment, disclosed on March 2, 2026, brings total weekly capacity on the city-pair to more than 2,000 seats, all operated by Boeing 787-9 aircraft configured with fresh-generation business-class suites.

Increased Capacity Driven by Demand

The early capacity bump reflects strong forward bookings from both corporate and visiting-friends-and-relatives (VFR) segments. Brazilian agribusiness exporters value Amsterdam Schiphol’s extensive belly-cargo network into Northern Europe, while Dutch energy and engineering firms with projects in Brazil require reliable lift into São Paulo. VisaHQ reports that Brazil-Netherlands trade reached US$10 billion in 2025, and Dutch Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in Brazil topped US$20 billion, led by energy, and agritech.

Route Details and Schedule

The flight will operate daily except on Tuesdays. The Boeing 787-9 aircraft features 303 seats, including 30 in business class and 273 in economy. LATAM plans to operate the route daily starting April 18, 2026, pending slot approvals. According to the announcement, the nighttime eastbound arrival at Guarulhos (GRU) is scheduled for 04:55, providing same-day connections to 45 domestic cities, reducing layover times.

Strategic Importance and Network Expansion

Amsterdam becomes LATAM’s fifth European gateway, joining Madrid, Barcelona, Paris, and Frankfurt. This establishes a northern-Europe hub for the airline, facilitating connections to Scandinavia and Eastern Europe through its joint-venture partner, Air France-KLM. The new route is seen as LATAM’s strategic response to competition from Azul’s codeshare with Virgin Atlantic via London and GOL’s planned joint venture with Air France-KLM.

Visa Requirements and Travel Facilitation

Holders of Dutch passports now enjoy 30-day visa-free entry to Brazil, simplifying travel arrangements. For passengers requiring visas, VisaHQ offers an online portal with step-by-step guidance, digital document uploads, and expedited service.

Booking and Fare Considerations

Passengers should expect introductory promotional fares to tighten once the route stabilizes. Companies with Dutch operations are advised to book travel for the second quarter of 2026 quickly to secure lower fare buckets while capacity is still being added. Flights to Amsterdam and São Paulo can be booked directly through the LATAM Airlines website and LATAM Airlines website. One-way flights are also available through platforms like Travelocity.
