Layers of Fear 3 Announced: Bloober Team Continues Psychological Horror Reign
Bloober Team, the developer behind the Silent Hill 2 remake and the Layers of Fear series, has officially announced Layers of Fear 3. The reveal came during a livestream celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Layers of Fear franchise, where studio head Piotr Babieno thanked fans before unveiling the next installment in the psychological horror series. IGN first reported the news.
A Decade of Dread
The Layers of Fear franchise has become a signature series for Bloober Team, beginning with the original title in 2016. This was followed by Layers of Fear 2 in 2021, and a reimagined edition in 2023 that combined the saga with updated technology and storytelling. tildee.com notes that Layers of Fear 3 aims to further explore the series’ themes of art, memory, and madness.
Creepy Teaser and William Blake
Bloober Team debuted a live-action teaser instead of traditional gameplay footage. The teaser features a man reciting William Blake’s “The Sick Rose” in an ornate hall. The camera focuses on two unsettling portraits: one of a woman, likely the “rose” from the poem, and another of a deteriorating, humanoid figure with its mouth sewn shut. A shadowy presence drifts by, and the woman’s painting falls to the floor. The man dismisses the event, attributing it to a “little friend” still learning the rules of the afterlife. The teaser concludes with a Valentine’s Day warning and a flipping sand timer.
Tagline and Future Plans
The project’s tagline, “Some Things Never Depart The Walls. They Only Learn To Wait,” adds to the unsettling atmosphere. Release timing and platforms for Layers of Fear 3 remain unconfirmed. TheGamer points out that this will be the fourth Layers of Fear title released by Bloober Team, considering the 2023 remake of the original game.
Bloober Team’s Current Projects
Alongside Layers of Fear 3, Bloober Team is also working on the Silent Hill 2 remake for Konami. The studio’s subsidiary, Broken Mirror Games, is also developing a mysterious Switch exclusive codenamed Project M. Bloober Team has experienced recent success with the Silent Hill 2 remake, as well as self-published titles like Cronos: The New Dawn and The Medium. Bloober Team’s official website provides further information about the studio and its projects.
