The Most Complex Part of the LEGO icons USS Enterprise Isn’t the Build – It’s a Graphic
LEGO Icons 10356 USS Enterprise NCC-1701-D is an engineering masterpiece, but the most complex part comes from a seemingly simple graphic design.
Both LEGO Designer Hans Burkhard Schlömer and LEGO Graphic designer Crystal marie Fontan appeared at Fan Media Days to present 10356 USS Enterprise NCC-1701-D, offering insights into not only the LEGO set’s construction and construction techniques as well as the graphic design were remarkable. In fact, the development of the frist LEGO Star Trek set was some of the most complex graphic work Crystal had ever done – with great results.
“At first glance, the deflector bowl may seem like a simple graphic, but it was actually one of the most complicated graphics I have ever created,” Crystal explained. “Because I had to recreate glowing lights in our design language.”
“It took a lot of attempts, a lot of nightmares and countless conversations to finally get this done, and I really think it elevates the whole model. It shows that it actually works.”
