Leonardo DiCaprio to Miss Actor Awards Due to Filming Commitment with Martin Scorsese
Leonardo DiCaprio will not attend the Actor Awards (formerly known as the SAG Awards) on Sunday, March 1, despite being nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role for his work in One Battle After Another. The actor is currently filming a fresh project with Martin Scorsese in Europe, according to People.
Scorsese Collaboration Takes Priority
DiCaprio is filming What Happens at Night, a film directed by Scorsese and starring Jennifer Lawrence. The movie is based on the novel of the same name by Peter Cameron and follows an American couple traveling to a small European town to adopt a child. This project marks the latest collaboration between DiCaprio and Scorsese, following their 2023 film, Killers of the Flower Moon.
Competitive Category at the Actor Awards
DiCaprio is nominated alongside Timothée Chalamet (Wonka), Ethan Hawke (Wildcat), Michael B. Jordan (Creed III), and Jesse Plemons (Killers of the Flower Moon) for the Actor Award.
Awards Season Success for ‘One Battle After Another’
While DiCaprio did not win at the recent British Academy Film Awards (BAFTA), where Robert Aramayo won for his role in I Swear, One Battle After Another was awarded Best Film. The film has already garnered significant recognition this awards season, winning Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy at the Golden Globe Awards and Best Film at the Critics Choice Awards.
Oscar Nomination Potential
DiCaprio has received six previous nominations for the Academy Award for Best Actor. One Battle After Another has received 13 nominations for the 98th Academy Awards, including Best Picture, positioning it as a strong contender for the awards on March 15.
Leonardo DiCaprio has been nominated for eight Academy Awards, seven British Academy Film Awards and fifteen Screen Actors Guild Awards, winning one from each of these and three Golden Globe Awards from fifteen nominations.
