Hazing Investigation Underway at Lexington High School

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) is investigating a hazing incident involving members of the Lexington High School varsity baseball team. The investigation began after a request from the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department on February 18, 2026.

Details of the Investigation

Lexington High School administrators were first alerted to a potential hazing incident on February 16, 2026, and subsequently notified the sheriff’s department. At the request of law enforcement, the school temporarily paused its internal review while SLED initiated its investigation. On March 2, 2026, Lexington High School was authorized to resume a separate, school-based investigation.

Both investigations are currently ongoing, and details regarding the alleged incident have not been publicly released. It remains unclear whether any players will face disciplinary action.

Lexington High School Baseball Program

Lexington High School is a prominent baseball program in South Carolina, having secured six state championships, most recently in 2024 with a sweep of Ashley Ridge in the championship series. The team reached the Class 5A Division I championship in 2025 but lost to James Island 2-1.

Prior to the season, the Wildcats were ranked No. 3 in the S.C. Baseball Coaches Class 5A Division I preseason rankings. They recently concluded a 1-3 performance at the Opterra Solutions Invitational.

School and District Response

“Lexington High School and Lexington County School District One are fully cooperating with law enforcement,” stated a representative from the school district. “Hazing and any behavior that harms students is taken very seriously. The district will continue to follow board policy and district procedures as the school’s review moves forward.”
