With the first advent, the Christmas gift from the Liepāja Puppet Theater arrives – the play “Once in the Festive Bakery…”. The premiere of this warm, aromatic, and humorous new production is scheduled for Saturday, November 29th at 2 p.m., with a public dress rehearsal beforehand on Thursday, november 27th at 6:30 p.m. Following the rehearsal, as always, there will be a discussion between the creators and the audience, informs Ieva Jansone, Public Relations manager of “Liepājas Leļļu teatris” SIA.
The story, created and directed by Lelda Kaupuža-Carnecka, is a gift to audiences young and old, designed to evoke the wonder of the holidays and the scent of gingerbread even before the city’s Christmas tree is lit. The performance is a party of festive joy and a testament to ongoing creative collaboration – Renārs Kauper, soloist of the band “Prāta vētra,” composed the show’s charming, heartfelt music and lyrics, while artist Agnese Kauper designed the scenography and costumes.
“From our first meeting, the creative team agreed that the goal was to make the audience smile and feel good, and that the production process itself would be playful, pleasant, and easy. We stayed true to that concept, and I hope the audience will experience the joy of our play with all their senses,” says the author and director, Lelde Kaupuža-Carnecka.

When Pudins, a slightly clumsy but warm-hearted elf recently dismissed from the gift-wrapping department, arrives as a new assistant, a fun adventure begins. For the strict and traditional bakery owner, Kūka, the new assistant presents a challenge. Can Kūka and Pudding reconcile old habits with new ideas? Will the scent of gingerbread herald not only a holiday, but also a warm friendship?
Notably,Lelde Kaupuža-Čarnecka staged her first Christmas show at the Liepāja Puppet Theater exactly ten years ago,and a new one has followed each year. When asked where she finds inspiration for thes holiday performances, the director replies: “You always have to look in your heart!”
