Limerick Man Receives Decade-Long Driving Ban

Shane Kelly, 37, of Distillery View, Quarry Road, Thomondgate, Limerick, drove a BMW X3 at various locations within Limerick city on April 18, 2025. Sergeant Denis Waters of the Limerick Gardaí prosecuted the case, presenting evidence to the court regarding Mr. Kelly’s driving and subsequent interview.
Extensive Criminal Record
The court heard that Mr. Kelly has a significant criminal record, with 79 previous convictions. These include five prior convictions for driving without insurance and five for driving without a license .
Current Incarceration
Currently, Mr. Kelly is in custody serving a five-year sentence imposed in December 2025 by the Circuit Court for burglary and unauthorized taking of a vehicle .
