Live Photo arriving on whatsapp

The universe of images sharing is prepared for a important turning point thanks to one of Apple’s most iconic features: the Live Photos. After years of waiting and requests from users, the possibility of sending and receiving animated images complete with sound finally comes up WhatsApp, revolutionizing the communication experience on iOS And, surprisingly, also on other operating systems. This novelty, currently available only in Beta, promises to redefine the way we tell and share our memories, adding depth and realism to each shot sent.

The new WhatsApp update for iPhone, initially released through TestFlight with the beta version 25.24.10.72, it introduces complete support to Live Photos, a function that has already conquered millions of users in the Apple world. So far, actually, sending a live photo through Whatsapp involved the loss of its dynamic nature: the images where converted into simple static photos or, at best, in gifs with reduced quality and without audio. Now, tho, the platform performs a remarkable qualitative leap allowing to preserve both the movement and the sound, returning the original magic of these moments captured in a few seconds.

The heart of innovation lies in the ability to keep both the Audio and Movement typical of live photos, both the loyalty to the original format. Each animated shot can be recognized by a new icon that reports the presence of dynamic content.

When Live Photos Arrive on WhatsApp

The ability to share Live Photos on WhatsApp is currently rolling out to users, but availability is still limited. as of September 8, 2024, the feature is in a gradual rollout phase, initially for a limited number of users participating in the beta version of the app. However, some users on the stable iOS release are also reporting access to the feature.

According to WhatsApp, this phased release allows them to gather valuable user feedback before making the feature widely available in the coming weeks. https://www.whatsapp.com/blog

Therefore, the full release of Live Photo sharing on WhatsApp is expected to occur shortly. This update will allow iOS users to share the dynamic, short-video-like photos taken with their iPhones directly within WhatsApp chats.

What are Live Photos?

Live Photos, introduced with the iPhone 6s, capture a few seconds of video before and after the still image is taken, creating a short, looping video clip. Sharing them directly through WhatsApp previously required converting them to videos or GIFs.
