Dowell Loggains Announced as New App State Football Coach

BOONE, N.C. – Appalachian State University has officially named Dowell Loggains as its new head football coach. The experienced play-caller, with stints in both the NFL and college ranks, will lead the Mountaineers program into a new era.

Experienced Play-Caller Joins App State

Loggains, 44, signed a five-year contract that runs through the 2029 season. He brings over 20 years of coaching experience, including tenures as an offensive coordinator for both NFL and collegiate teams. Most recently, he served as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for the top-15 ranked South Carolina Gamecocks.

Introducing the New Mountaineer Head Coach

Loggains will be formally introduced to the App State community on Monday at a noon press conference at Kidd Brewer Stadium’s Grandview Ballroom. The event is open to the public and will also be streamed live on the App State Football’s official YouTube, Facebook, and X pages.

“My family and I are thrilled to join the Mountaineer family and build on the rich championship tradition of App State Football,” said Loggains. “Thank you to the Board of Trustees, Chancellor Norris, Doug Gillin, and all of App Nation for this incredible opportunity to lead such a storied program. We are eager to become part of the community, engage with the student-athletes and fans, and give our All for App State.”

Loggains’ Successes at South Carolina

In his two seasons with the Gamecocks, Loggains has contributed significantly to their success. South Carolina boasts a 9-3 record, a powerhouse rushing offense, and wins over top-tier opponents like Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Missouri, and Clemson. He has played a key role in the development of redshirt freshman quarterback LaNorris Sellers into a dual-threat standout.

Extensive NFL and College Experience

Before joining South Carolina, Loggains coached at his alma mater, Arkansas, for two years as the tight ends coach. His NFL resume is equally impressive, encompassing various roles as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for the Tennessee Titans, Cleveland Browns, Chicago Bears, Miami Dolphins, and New York Jets. Throughout his career, Loggains has mentored numerous quarterbacks, including Sam Darnold, Jay Cutler, Mitchell Trubisky, Brian Hoyer, and Vince Young.

A Championship Tradition

Douglas Gillin, App State’s Director of Athletics, expressed enthusiasm for Loggains joining the program. “We believe Dowell Loggains is the ideal leader to continue the success of App State Football,” Hill said. “He brings a wealth of experience in developing quarterbacks and offensive schemes that consistently produce winning results. .”

App State fans can look forward to an energetic and exciting new era under Coach Loggains. Acquisition of season tickets for the 2025 season will begin soon!
