Jan Mallach’s Journey: From Autoimmune Diagnosis to Ring Return

Lübeck, Germany – March 4, 2026 – Kickboxer Jan Mallach is preparing for his return to the ring after a challenging period marked by an autoimmune disease diagnosis. The Lübeck native faced a difficult battle with a platelet deficiency, discovered after a compelling performance at Storm FC Volume 1 in May 2025.

A Promising Start Interrupted

In May 2025, Mallach showcased his skills at Storm FC Volume 1, progressing to the final of the Storm Rules tournament. He secured a knockout victory in the semi-final against an opponent from Bremen, demonstrating power, and precision. Although, unusual swelling began to appear shortly after the fight, raising concerns. Despite the physical discomfort, Mallach competed in the final, ultimately losing a narrow decision to a fighter from Hamburg.

Diagnosis and Recovery

Following the tournament, Mallach underwent medical evaluation, revealing a platelet deficiency – an autoimmune condition impacting blood clotting. This explained the excessive bruising he experienced during the fights. “The swelling got so bad overnight that I could barely see the next day,” Mallach stated, leading to hospitalization and diagnosis. His blood values have since stabilized, allowing him to resume training.

Return to the Ring

Mallach is now preparing for Storm FC Volume 2 on May 9th in Lübeck. This fight represents a targeted return to competition, offering him a chance to continue his career. He previously competed in K1 and MMA, but found the Storm Rules format – K1 with little MMA gloves, incorporating active clinch and throwing techniques – particularly appealing. “What particularly appeals to me is fighting while standing with small gloves,” Mallach explained. “The dynamics are different, the hits feel more direct. It’s more honest, more intense.”

Focus on Safety and Future Goals

Trainer Andreas Wiechmann emphasized Mallach’s maturity and renewed focus. “Jan has gained enormous maturity during this phase, not only athletically but also mentally. He now knows what really counts – and that’s exactly what makes him dangerous.” Storm FC managing director Mark Kemper affirmed that the health of their fighters remains the top priority, ensuring Mallach’s values are checked by a doctor before any fight.

Mallach is determined to win and has expressed humility and a renewed appreciation for his health. He aims to rewrite his story in the ring, demonstrating his capabilities and securing victory in Lübeck.
