Mainz Budget Approved Despite Debt – How Will the City Cover the Deficit?

The city of Mainz faces a significant financial hurdle: a 134 million euro deficit weighs heavily on the city’s treasury. Though, the Supervisory and Service Directorate (ADD) in Trier has approved the 2025 budget – following improvements made by the city.

This approval allows Mainz to proceed wiht its planned investments and projects temporarily.However, the approval comes with strict conditions: Mainz must implement further savings measures and substantially reduce the deficit starting in 2026.
