Dublin Woman’s Death After E-Scooter Hit-and-Run: Family Faces “Nightmare”

A Dublin family is living with the unimaginable after the tragic death of Mary Bernie, affectionately known as Peg, in a hit-and-run involving a stolen e-scooter last year. The 87-year-old woman succumbed to her injuries three days after being struck on Eccles Street, Dublin 7, on June 20, 2022.

Driver Receives Prison Sentence

Aaron Gumble, a 28-year-old from Drumalee Park, North Circular Road, Dublin, has been sentenced to eight years in prison for the devastating incident. The final 18 months of the sentence are suspended. Gumble, who was out on bail for theft offences at the time of the crash, was also disqualified from driving for ten years.

Gumble pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including dangerous driving causing death, leaving the scene of an accident, and the theft of the e-scooter from the Mater Public Hospital underground carpark.
