Cork Thief Jailed After Stealing €2,000 Worth of Gold Jewelry

A 30-year-old man, Matthew Ginnifer, has been jailed for four months after stealing a gold ring and bracelet worth over €2,000 from a Cork shop.

### Jewelry Theft

Judge Treasa Kelly imposed the sentence at Cork District Court. Sergeant Gearóid Davis told the court that Ginnifer entered Cash Connectors on MacCurtain Street on November 15th. He tried on a gold ring and bracelet valued at €2,198 before leaving the store without paying.

Gardaí arrested Ginnifer shortly after, recovering both pieces of jewelry.

### Further Incidents

Sgt. Davis also revealed a separate incident involving Ginnifer in September. Early on September 24th, gardaí responded to reports of Ginnifer banging on the windows of a McDonald’s restaurant on St Patrick’s Street.

When officers arrived, Ginnifer was verbally abusive towards staff, calling one a ‘prick’. He was arrested and released later that day, only to come to garda attention again around 3:30 pm, shouting and roaring on Winthrop Street. Ginnifer was arrested once more, waving his hands aggressively, causing pedestrians to avoid him.

### Guilty Plea

Ginnifer’s solicitor, Frank Buttimer, stated that his client pleaded guilty at the earliest opportunity and that the stolen jewelry had been recovered.
