Manchester United and Wolfsburg Advance to Women’s Champions League Quarterfinals
Manchester United reached the Women’s Champions League quarterfinals for the first time on Thursday, defeating Atletico Madrid 2-0. Two-time champion Wolfsburg also advanced, winning 2-0 away against Juventus with a 4-2 aggregate score.
Manchester United’s Historic Victory
Manchester United continued their dominant form, securing a 2-0 victory over Atletico Madrid at Leigh Sports Village. This win finalized a 5-0 aggregate triumph for the English side. Julia Zigiotti Olme opened the scoring with a precise left-foot shot within the first half-hour, adding to her goal from the first leg. Jess Park then doubled the lead before halftime with a stunning long-distance drive.
As a result of this victory, Manchester United will face Bayern Munich in the quarterfinals.
Wolfsburg Overcomes Juventus
Wolfsburg defeated Juventus 2-0 in Turin, completing a 4-2 aggregate win. Vivien Endemann scored the opening goal for Wolfsburg with a well-finished shot following a flowing passing move. Cora Zicai sealed the victory in the sixth minute of stoppage time with a 20-yard shot that went in off the bar.
Despite Juventus dominating the second half and creating several chances – including hitting the crossbar and forcing saves from Wolfsburg’s goalkeeper Stina Johannes – they were unable to find a goal to force extra time.
