March Madness Brackets Revealed: Duke, Arizona, Michigan, and Florida Lead Men’s Tournament; UConn Dominates Women’s

The stage is set for college basketball’s championship run. Duke, Arizona, Michigan, and Florida have earned the coveted No. 1 seeds in the NCAA men’s basketball tournament, while UConn leads the women’s bracket as the top overall seed. The selections were announced on Sunday, setting the field for a month of thrilling competition culminating in the Final Four.

Men’s Tournament: A Look at the Top Seeds

Duke, boasting a 32-2 record and an ACC Tournament title, secured the No. 1 overall seed in the men’s tournament. They will face Siena in the first round. Arizona, also with a 32-2 record and a conference tournament championship, earned the No. 1 seed in the West Region, and will play Long Island University. Michigan (31-3) will headline the Midwest Region, and Florida, the defending national champions, will lead the South Region.

The men’s tournament begins with the First Four matchups on Tuesday and Wednesday, followed by the full Round of 64 on Thursday.

Women’s Tournament: UConn Remains Undefeated

The UConn Huskies (34-0) will enter the NCAA women’s tournament as the top overall seed, aiming to repeat as national champions. They are undefeated for the first time since 2018. Joining UConn as No. 1 seeds are UCLA, Texas, and South Carolina.

The women’s Final Four is scheduled for April 3 in Phoenix, with the championship game on April 5.

Key Matchups and Regional Breakdown

Duke faces a challenging East Region that includes Kansas, Connecticut, and St. John’s. Arizona will contend with competition in the West, while Michigan and Florida will navigate the Midwest and South, respectively. Florida may face a challenge in the Elite Eight, potentially playing Houston at home.

Last Teams In and Notable Snubs

Miami (Ohio) was among the last teams to receive an at-large bid, despite going undefeated in the regular season but losing in their conference tournament. They will play SMU in the First Four. Texas and North Carolina State also secured spots in the First Four, alongside Miami and SMU. Virginia Commonwealth would not have made the field had it not won its conference tournament. Oklahoma, Auburn, San Diego State, and Indiana were the first four teams left out of the tournament.

Freshman Stars to Watch

The tournament will showcase several talented freshmen, including Cameron Boozer of Duke, Darryn Peterson of Kansas, and AJ Dybantsa of BYU, all potential top picks in the upcoming NBA draft. But, North Carolina’s Caleb Wilson will miss the tournament due to a broken thumb.

Looking Ahead: Final Four Locations

The men’s Final Four will be held on April 4 and April 6 in Indianapolis, while the women’s Final Four takes place in Phoenix. The question of expanding the tournament field remains under discussion, with NCAA President Charlie Baker expressing support for growth.
