Eight Projects Define Marvel Slate as Output Slows
Marvel has scheduled just one Marvel Cinematic Universe movie for 2027, pairing it with seven other television series, animated shows, and theatrical releases across the year, SlashFilm reported. That single-movie count represents a notable slowdown for the studio, which has deliberately reduced its yearly volume to protect its theatrical tentpoles, according to a separate tracking update from 9to5marvel.com.
The year’s calendar balances mature live-action revivals against preschool-targeted animation and multiverse spectacles. Production shifts and scheduling adjustments have placed several marquee titles into specific windows throughout 2027, while leaving other streaming windows open for further studio updates.
Spider-Man Sequels Launch in January and June
The 2027 slate opens on January 13 with the second season of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man on Disney+ Animation. The animated series picks up after Peter Parker, voiced by Hudson Thames, receives a well-connected mentor in Norman Osborn, played by Colman Domingo. Showrunner Jeff Trammell confirmed the release date during a New York Comic Con panel, as reported by SlashFilm, adding that work on seasons 3 and 4 is already underway.

Sony Pictures Animation follows on June 18 with Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse. The sequel resumes Miles Morales’ story after a cliffhanger left the teenage hero stranded in an alternate universe with a brutal doppelganger. Co-directors Justin K. Thompson and Bob Persichetti steer the project, which arrives after delays pushed its intended release date back by several years.
Defenders Reunite in Daredevil Final Season and X-Men Return
Disney+ series Daredevil: Born Again reaches its third and final season in March 2027, according to SlashFilm’s rollout schedule. Matt Murdock, played by Charlie Cox, faces incarceration for vigilantism after the Season 2 finale exposed his secret identity to the world. The revival brings back former Netflix-era actors, reuniting the Defenders with Danny Rand played by Finn Jones, Elektra Natchios played by Élodie Yung, Luke Cage played by Mike Colter, and Jessica Jones played by Krysten Ritter. Vincent D’Onofrio discussed the series at MCM London, while 9to5marvel.com reported that filming was complete with reshoots under way ahead of the March window.
Marvel Studios Animation brings back X-Men ’97 for its third season during 2027. Season 2 left mutantkind fractured after the defeat of Apocalypse, voiced by Ross Marquand, and the loss of Nightcrawler, voiced by Adrian Hough. Season 3 aims for a streamlined single-timeline narrative following the multi-timeline split of its predecessor.
Winter Soldier Special and Secret Wars Close Out 2027
Halloween 2027 brings Marvel Zombies: The Winter Soldier to Disney+ Animation, establishing the first of three annual Halloween specials. Announced during New York Comic Con and tracked by 9to5marvel.com, the project puts the Winter Soldier into the horrific alternate-universe timeline overrun by the undead.
The marquee live-action release lands on December 17 with Avengers: Secret Wars. Serving as the direct sequel to Avengers: Doomsday, the film is expected to adapt Jonathan Hickman and Esad Ribic’s 2015 comic book series Secret Wars, and retains its December theatrical date despite ongoing shifts in Marvel’s broader 2027 schedule.
Preschool Series Expands the Slate
Younger audiences receive an animated addition during the year. Spidey and His Amazing Friends returns for Season 6, for which no official release window has been announced, though historically the show has released new episodes during the summer. The series features the trio facing all the usual supervillains in Spider-Man’s rogues’ gallery with the action and stakes far less intense; Season 5 added Silk (Aveline Choi) to the heroic ensemble.
