Cincinnati, OH – Nine people were injured in a shooting early Sunday morning at Riverfront Live, a nightclub in Cincinnati’s East End. One victim is in critical condition, according to police reports. WKRC and Bakersfield Now both reported on the incident.

Details of the Shooting

The shooting occurred around 1 a.m. Near the intersection of Kellogg Avenue and Wilmer Avenue. The event at the time of the shooting was the DJ Fresh Birthday Celebration, according to a statement from DJ Fresh’s management team.

Official Statements

Cincinnati Mayor Aftab Pureval released a statement on Facebook, calling the shooting “senseless” and expressing support for law enforcement and hospital staff. WLWT5 shared the mayor’s full statement.

Cincinnati City Councilmember Meeka Owens described the shooting as a tragedy, noting the profound impact on the families of the victims.

Tim Jordan, the owner of Riverfront Live, stated the venue has a metal detector and pat-down procedures for incoming patrons and expressed devastation that anyone was hurt in his establishment. He also announced Riverfront Live would no longer work with outside promoters.

Witness Accounts

Members of the band Solid Gold Dancer, who were performing at Murray’s Tavern nearby, witnessed people fleeing the scene. Band member Sam Steinher said, “We saw a bunch of people running from this side of the building while we were out on a break in between sets… But someone said that people had been firing shots off.” Another bandmate, Cam Welling, reported people taking cover inside Murray’s Tavern.

Injuries and Medical Response

UC Medical Center confirmed they received eight patients related to the shooting. Two were treated and released, five were listed as stable, and one remained in critical condition.

Investigation

The Cincinnati Police Department is investigating the shooting, with assistance from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) Columbus branch. Surveillance video shows the chaos following the shots fired. Initial reports suggest the shooting may have been targeted rather than random, but the motive remains under investigation.
