Massimiliano Gallo Brings Vincenzo Malinconico to the Stage in “Malinconico Moderately Happy”

Massimiliano Gallo is set to portray the beloved television lawyer Vincenzo Malinconico in a new theatrical production, “Malinconico Moderately Happy,” at the Teatro Manzoni in Milan from February 24th to March 8th, 2026. The play is based on the character created by Diego De Silva and will feature Gallo both as the lead actor and director.

Bringing a Literary Character to Life

The production aims to translate the voice and essence of the literary character, Vincenzo Malinconico, to the stage. Malinconico, an unsuccessful lawyer with a complicated personal life, has resonated with audiences through his relatable struggles and philosophical outlook. Gallo credits his role in Marco Risi’s film “Fortapàsc” as a turning point in his career, leading to opportunities with directors like Ferzan Özpetek. He acknowledges the complexities of fame, noting that it can be a “big circus” and that maintaining perspective is crucial. Directorial Debut: “The Climb”

In addition to “Malinconico Moderately Happy,” Gallo is also debuting as a director with the film “The Climb,” scheduled for release on April 9th, distributed by Fandango. The film is set in a juvenile prison and draws inspiration from the historical presence of a theater and scenographic laboratory established there in the 1980s by Eduardo De Filippo.
