The abrupt closure occurred with little advance notice, leaving customers holding Maya Cinemas tickets or gift cards to contact the company directly at 559-549-0005, according to a notice posted on the theater’s glass doors. No initial reason was provided for the sudden shutdown of the location, which originally opened in 2015 as part of a public-private partnership between Fresno developer Lance Kashian & Co. and the California State University system.
Galaxy Theatres Takes Over Operations at Campus Pointe
Galaxy Theatres will assume control of the shuttered Fresno theater, according to a news release issued Saturday by Campus Pointe. While a specific timetable for the changeover has not yet been disclosed, Lance Kashian & Co. announced that the primary focus will center on a smooth and timely transition followed by planned improvements to enhance the overall guest experience. Campus Pointe praised the outgoing operator, stating that Maya Cinemas had played an important role in establishing the development as a regional destination for entertainment, dining, and community gathering. Galaxy Theatres operates 15 movie theaters across the Western United States, placing the company among the top 4% of movie exhibitors nationwide, according to The Business Journal. Founded in 1998 with its first portfolio development in Porterville, California, the company also runs a location at the Tulare Outlets alongside operations in Nevada, Texas, and other western states.
The Fresno transition follows recent contractions for Maya Cinemas. According to The Business Journal, the Pasadena-based chain recently closed a long-standing theater in Salinas that had operated for two decades. Even with the Campus Pointe closure and the Salinas shutdown, Maya Cinemas continues to operate four California locations in Bakersfield, Delano, Pittsburg, and Chino, alongside a single theater in North Las Vegas.
Regal @ El Paseo Listed For Sale Amid Regional Shifts
As ownership shifts at Campus Pointe, Fresno’s newest cinema property has simultaneously hit the commercial real estate market. According to a LoopNet real estate listing highlighted by The Business Journal, the Regal @ El Paseo in northwest Fresno is listed for sale at $19.72 million. Opened in 2021 as phase two of the Marketplace at El Paseo retail power center built by Southern California developers Rich Development and Gryphon Capital, the nearly 50,000-square-foot cinema complex remains fully operational. The listing indicates that the property ranks among Regal’s top 12% performing locations nationally, with projected 2026 sales running 86% above the national corporate average. Regal’s existing lease term for the El Paseo property runs through May 2036, backed by four five-year renewal options.
