Mazda 6e: Australia Set to Welcome New Electric Sedan with Competitive Pricing
Japanese car maker Mazda announced plans to release a second electric vehicle (EV) model into the Australian market, the Mazda 6e sedan, following the debut of the MX-30 more than four years ago. The 6e aims to address shortcomings of its predecessor, which was considered outmatched by rivals in terms of both price and range.
Pricing and Variants
The Mazda 6e, with a base model price just under $50,000 (before on-road costs), has received approval for sale in Australia, with its arrival expected in June 2026. Two variants are available:
- GT: Priced at $49,990 before on-roads, offering competitive pricing for an electric sedan.
- Atenza: Priced at $52,990 before on-roads, featuring interior upgrades.
Specifications and Performance
The Mazda 6e boasts the following specifications:
- Length: 4.92 meters
- Weight: 2,015 kg
- Running Clearance: 140 mm
- Wheel Size: 19-inch
- Power: 190 kW
The 6e is powered by a 190 kW powertrain and a 78 kWh Lithium-Iron-Phosphate (LFP) battery pack, delivering a range of up to 500 km on a single charge – a significant improvement over the 200 km range offered by the discontinued MX-30 SUV.
DC fast-charging capabilities allow the battery to be charged from 30% to 80% in approximately 15 minutes, utilizing a compatible charger.
Technology and Features
The Mazda 6e is equipped with a range of advanced technologies, including:
- A large 14.6-inch touchscreen
- A screen behind the steering wheel
- A heads-up display
- A plush interior
It also offers 1,500 kg of braked towing capacity.
Manufacturing and Collaboration
The Mazda 6e is built in collaboration with Chongqing Changan Automobile Company, a major automotive manufacturer in China, which also owns the Deepal brand distributed in Australia by Inchcape. Mazda states this partnership will contribute to “smart electrification, fast charging and cutting-edge cabin technology,” combined with Mazda’s signature design and driving performance.
Looking Ahead
As the local version of the Mazda 6e arrives in the coming months, anticipation builds to assess its performance in the Australian market and track its sales as customer orders are fulfilled in the second half of 2026.
