McDonald’s to Invest €150 Million in Irish Expansion, Creating 1,750 Jobs
McDonald’s Ireland has announced a significant €150 million investment plan to open 25 latest restaurants across the country over the next five years. The expansion, which will create approximately 1,750 jobs, is timed to coincide with the company’s 50th anniversary in Ireland in 2027.
Expansion Details and Investment
The fast-food giant intends to open five new restaurants annually, beginning with the recently opened location in New Ross, County Wexford last month [1]. This initiative represents a substantial commitment to the Irish market and its economic growth.
Mike Spencer, Vice President of Development at McDonald’s UK & Ireland, stated the company has a “clear plan to invest more than €150 million” in Ireland over the next five years [2]. He added that the company aims to have 100 restaurants operating in Ireland by its 50th anniversary in 2027 [1].
Investment in Existing Restaurants
Beyond new locations, McDonald’s is also investing in upgrading its current restaurants. A recent example is the €3 million refurbishment of the Cork Douglas restaurant, completed in late 2025 [2].
Economic Impact and Supply Chain
McDonald’s demonstrates a strong commitment to the Irish economy, with an annual spend exceeding €240 million on its Irish supply chain [4]. The company currently operates 96 restaurants nationwide, all independently owned and operated by 18 Irish franchisees [3], employing over 7,000 people and contributing over €414 million to the Irish economy annually.
In Cork, McDonald’s employs over 1,100 people, generating an estimated €37.6 million in Gross Value Added (GVA) to the local economy [4].
Government Support
Jerry Buttimer, Minister of State at the Department of Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht, welcomed McDonald’s investment plans, stating they represent a “strong endorsement of the value of long-term investment in Ireland’s communities” [4].
