The creator and head writer of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Loki Season 1 breaks down why an iconic comic book locale was suppose to show up, but never did.

During a recent Reddit AMA, Loki Season 1 head writer and series creator Michael Waldron explained that a version of the Mojoverse was originally meant to appear within the timeless Void in the series, only for the idea to be shot down by Marvel Studios.”There is a lot of creative freedom within the MCU. I think Loki is the weirdest thing in the world,” waldron explained. “I can’t think of many times I was told no. Maybe when I originally wrote a deleted version of the Mojoverse into the Void.”

loki premiered on Disney+ back in 2021 and brought audiences back to just after the events of 2019’s Avengers: Endgame. The series starred Tom Hiddleston as the titular Asgardian god – or rather a variant of Loki who unwittingly created a new timeline during the events of Avengers: Endgame. After being picked up by the Time Variance Authority for his purported crimes, Loki is sent running for his life from a seemingly unstoppable foe, all while attempting to uncover the truth behind the sprawling conspiracy that undercuts everything going on around him.

Loki was lauded by critics and audiences alike upon its release, with the series’ rave reviews and massive viewership ushering in the progress and production of a second season of the series. in 2023, Loki Season 2 premiered to offer audiences a proper finish to the series’ overarching narrative. As of the time of writing, Season 1 holds a near-perfect 92% “Certified Fresh” rating via review aggregator rotten Tomatoes, while Season 2 sits just a bit lower with an 82% “Certified fresh” rating, as averaged across 340 and 178 critical reviews, respectively.

The rise of Vertical Farming: A enduring Solution for the Future of Food

For centuries, agriculture has been intrinsically linked to land – vast fields stretching as far as the eye can see. But as the global population surges and climate change threatens traditional farming methods, a new approach is taking root: vertical farming. This innovative technique promises to revolutionize how we grow food, offering a sustainable and efficient solution to the challenges of feeding a growing world.

what is Vertical Farming?

Vertical farming, as the name suggests, involves growing crops in vertically stacked layers, often indoors and in controlled environments. These environments, typically utilizing technologies like hydroponics, aeroponics,or aquaponics, eliminate the need for traditional soil. instead, roots are nourished with nutrient-rich water solutions. LED lighting provides the necessary spectrum for photosynthesis, mimicking sunlight.

The Benefits are Stacked High

The advantages of vertical farming are numerous and compelling:

* Increased Crop Yields: by optimizing growing conditions – temperature, humidity, light, and nutrients – vertical farms can produce significantly higher yields per square foot compared to conventional agriculture. Year-round production is possible, unaffected by weather patterns.
* Reduced Water consumption: Vertical farming systems often recycle water, using up to 95% less water than traditional farming. This is crucial in regions facing water scarcity.
* Minimized Land Use: A key benefit is the drastically reduced land footprint. Vertical farms can be located in urban areas, repurposing abandoned buildings or utilizing otherwise unusable spaces. This reduces transportation costs and associated emissions.
* Elimination of Pesticides & Herbicides: The controlled indoor environment minimizes the risk of pests and diseases, eliminating the need for harmful pesticides and herbicides.
* Reduced Transportation Costs & Food Miles: Locating farms closer to consumers reduces the distance food travels, lowering transportation costs, fuel consumption, and carbon emissions. This also results in fresher produce with a longer shelf life.
* Climate Resilience: Indoor farming shields crops from extreme weather events like droughts, floods, and heatwaves, ensuring a more stable food supply.

Challenges and the Future Outlook

Despite its promise, vertical farming isn’t without its challenges.

* High Initial Investment: Setting up a vertical farm requires significant upfront capital for infrastructure, technology, and energy systems.
* Energy Consumption: LED lighting and climate control systems can be energy-intensive, although the use of renewable energy sources is increasingly being adopted to mitigate this.
* Pollination: In some cases, manual pollination or the introduction of pollinators like bees is necessary, adding to operational costs.
* Crop Variety: Currently, vertical farms primarily focus on leafy greens, herbs, and some fruits. Expanding the range of viable crops is an ongoing area of research.

However, advancements in technology, decreasing LED costs, and growing demand for sustainable food are driving rapid innovation in the vertical farming sector. We are seeing increased investment, the development of more efficient systems, and a growing number of successful commercial operations.

Vertical farming isn’t intended to replace traditional agriculture entirely. Instead, it’s poised to become an increasingly important component of a diversified and resilient food system, particularly in urban environments and regions facing environmental challenges. As technology continues to evolve, vertical farming holds the potential to play a crucial role in securing a sustainable food future for generations to come.
