Glenveagh’s €79.16 Million Deal for Social Housing in Meath
Housebuilder Glenveagh has agreed to a €79.16 million deal to sell 159 homes to Meath County Council for social housing, as detailed in planning documentation for a larger 757-home development. The Irish Times first reported the agreement on April 2, 2026.
Development Details
The homes are part of a larger scheme valued at €376 million, located on a 92-acre site near Carton House Hotel, 1km northeast of Maynooth town, and 22km from Dublin city centre. Glenveagh is delivering the 159 social housing units to meet the council’s requirements. These include an entire apartment block, a duplex block, 14 units designed for older people, and 87 houses.
Price Range for Social Housing Units
Indicative pricing for the social housing units, as outlined in the planning application, ranges from €339,258 for a studio apartment to €839,281 for a four-bedroom end-terrace home.
Overall Development Plan
Glenveagh plans to build a total of 523 houses, 100 duplex units (across three blocks), and 134 apartments (across three five-story blocks) on the Moygaddy site, which borders County Kildare. The development will also include a creche, a playing pitch, a retail unit, and construction of the North-Eastern Maynooth Outer Orbital Route.
Meath County Council and Social Housing
Meath County Council is responsible for managing a significant portion of the social housing available in Meath. Social housing provides affordable rental options for individuals and families on low incomes. The council is also pursuing the compulsory acquisition of four vacant properties – three in Navan and one in Slane – to increase the availability of social housing. Objections to these compulsory purchase orders can be submitted to An Coimisiún Pleanála by April 29, 2026.
Glenveagh director Roger Browne stated that the final details of the agreement with the council, including costs and unit types, will be determined after planning permission is secured.
