Celebrities Rally Around Mel Schilling Following Terminal Cancer Diagnosis

Married At First Sight star Mel Schilling has received an outpouring of support from celebrities including Davina McCall and Holly Willoughby after sharing the devastating news that her cancer is now untreatable.

The 54-year-vintage Australian relationship coach revealed that the cancer has spread to the left side of her brain, and doctors have informed her “there is nothing further they can do.” Schilling shared her experience on Instagram, describing how her “world changed” upon learning of the cancer’s progression and noting that her “light is starting to fade.”

Heartfelt Messages of Support

Davina McCall, who underwent surgery for breast cancer in October, commented on Schilling’s post, writing: “Hey xxxxx sending you love and light,” accompanied by a heart emoji. Holly Willoughby likewise expressed her support, stating: “Sending so much love… thinking of you and the family.”

Australian pop singer Dannii Minogue also sent a message of support, saying: “You are small but mighty, with such a huge heart. I have not known you long, but you are so loved by so many. My heart breaks for you and your beautiful family. Looking forward to holding your tiny hand, laughing so loud and dancing it off. Always here to bring you some Aussie sunshine.”

Schilling’s Cancer Journey

Schilling initially received treatment for colon cancer in 2023. A routine scan months later revealed “small nodules” in her lungs, which have since spread to her brain, causing “blinding headaches and numbness” down the right side of her body. Although filming Married At First Sight, she underwent 16 rounds of chemotherapy followed by radiotherapy.

In her Instagram post, Schilling shared the emotional impact of the news, stating, “Hearing those words changes everything.” She acknowledged the difficulties she now faces with simple tasks and expressed gratitude for the love and support of her family.

Schilling also emphasized the importance of seeking medical attention when something doesn’t feel right, stating, “If I could exit you with one thing, it would simply be this: if something doesn’t feel right, please get it checked out. It might just save your life.”

Changes to Married At First Sight

Schilling has stepped back from the Australian version of Married At First Sight after 12 seasons as an expert. Channel 4 announced that John Aiken will replace Schilling for the remainder of the UK series, which is currently being filmed. The broadcaster expressed their sadness over the news and sent their love and support to Schilling and her family.
