Columbia State Historic Park to Host Memorial Day and Veterans Day Remembrance Ceremonies

Columbia State Historic Park will be the site of solemn remembrance ceremonies honoring fallen veterans on both Memorial Day and Veterans Day in 2026 and 2025. These events, steeped in local history, offer opportunities for the community to pay tribute to those who served.

Memorial Day Ceremony – May 2026

The Memorial Day ceremony will begin at 11:00 AM at the Columbia Cemetery. The Grenadine Belles and the Columbia Militia Color Guard will lead a moving tribute to fallen veterans. Visitors are encouraged to arrive early and bring chairs to enjoy the historic charm of Columbia while paying tribute. Following the cemetery service, a special ceremony and musical performance by the 191st U.S. Army Band will take place at 1:00 PM near the museum. This event is free and open to the public.

Veterans Day Remembrance – November 11, 2025

The annual Veterans Day Remembrance will be held at the Columbia Cemetery on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, beginning at 10:55 AM. The Columbia Grenadine Belles and Columbia Militia will host the ceremony in the Veterans Section of the cemetery, located at 22956 School House Street, Columbia—just behind the historic schoolhouse. The ceremony will include a flag raising, two minutes of silence at 11:00 AM, a reading of the roll call of veterans buried in the cemetery, and a volley fired by the Columbia Militia, followed by the playing of Taps. The Grenadine Belles will share the history and significance of Veterans Day.

About the Participating Groups

The Grenadine Belles are a local group dedicated to preserving and sharing the history of the region. The Columbia Militia participates in historical reenactments and honors veterans through ceremonial events. Both groups play a vital role in commemorating those who have served.
