UND’s Abram Wiebe Named NCHC Defenseman of the Week for Second Consecutive Time

GRAND FORKS, N.D. – North Dakota junior defenseman Abram Wiebe has been named the NCHC Defenseman of the Week for the second straight week, the conference announced Tuesday. Wiebe’s stellar performance helped lead the No. 3 Fighting Hawks to a series sweep over No. 20 Miami.

Wiebe’s Impact in the Series

In Friday’s 1-0 victory, Wiebe played a key role in holding Miami to just 12 shots on goal. He then showcased his offensive abilities in Saturday’s 4-3 overtime win. Trailing 3-1 in the third period, Wiebe initiated the comeback with a crucial assist, setting up a goal to make it a 3-2 game. He then sealed the victory with the overtime game-winning goal.

Season Stats and Recognition

The Mission, British Columbia, native finished the series with two points, including the game-winning goal and a primary assist. He also recorded three blocked shots, a +1 plus/minus, and three shots on goal over the weekend. Wiebe is currently tied for fifth among NCHC defensemen with 21 points (4 goals, 17 assists) this season, and has accumulated seven points in his last six games.

Upcoming Schedule

No. 3 North Dakota will conclude its home regular season schedule this weekend against St. Cloud State, with games on Friday at 7:07 p.m. CT and Saturday. The games will be broadcast on Midco Sports, NCHC.tv, TSN2, and the Fighting Hawks Radio Network.
