ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College men’s swimming and diving program walked away with a split decision on Saturday afternoon defeating Hobart (248-36) but it turned out to be highly competitive against Worcester Polytechnic Institute as the Engineers won by just seven team points at 152.5-145.5.
The quartet of Alec Kutsner,Will Stanczewski,Matthew Mitros and Spencer Alderson teamed to win the meet opening 200-yard medley relay by producing a time of 1:34.81 as WPI finished second at 1:35.54.
Reigning Liberty League Swimmer of the Week Ryan Cooke improved on his 200-yard freestyle time from a week ago (1:45.63) to best the field by over a second at 1:44.07.He would also go on to win the 100-yard freestyle with a finals time of 47.48, that bested Nolan Schlessman from WPI who swam a 47.48. cooke then collected more team points for the Bombers with his third win of the day, this time in the 500-yard freestyle. the senior swam a finals time of 4:49.12 and finishing third for IC was Harper Freeman who touched the final wall at 4:59.75.
First year Ben Hurty would put together a strong performance in the 200-yard backstroke winning the event with a finals time of 1:58.14. He also was third in the 100-yard event that was won by teammate Alec Kutsner who was clocked at 52.38.
Senior diver Kian Long produced a finals performance of 291.85 on the 3-meter boards to win the event over WPI’s Thomas Fitzgerald (206.05). Long would then top the Engineer again on the 1-meter by over 50 points with his finals score of 252.40. Finishing in third for IC was sophomore Ignacio Fernandez-Manzano.
Ithaca College swimming & Diving Team Competes, Ryan Cooke Shines
The Ithaca College swimming and diving team recently showcased strong performances in a meet where several Bombers achieved top finishes.

* James Moore: 3rd in the 200-yard butterfly (2:00.61) and 4th in the 100-yard butterfly (54.33).
* matthew Mitros: 2nd in the 50-yard freestyle (21.84).
* ben Hurty: 1st in the 200-yard backstroke (1:58.14).
* Marshall Adams: 2nd in the 200-yard backstroke (1:59.29).
* Alec Kutsner: 3rd in the 200-yard backstroke (2:02.60).
* Mateo Graff: 2nd in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:14.32).
* Harper Freeman: 3rd in the 500-yard freestyle (5:00.59).
* Ben Lajoie: 3rd in the 200-yard IM (2:01.52).
* Ethan Schmitt, Spencer Alderson, and Bennett Molitor-Kirsch: 2nd in the 400-yard Freestyle Relay (3:12.04).
* Ignacio Fernandez-Manzano: 3rd in the 1-meter diving (133.60).
