Mercedes-AMG Prepares for Extreme Performance with New GT3 and Black Series Models
Mercedes-AMG is poised to launch two high-performance vehicles – the new GT3 race car and a future Black Series model – both built upon the foundation of the CONCEPT AMG GT TRACK SPORT unveiled last year. The announcement, made on March 24, 2026, signals the brand’s commitment to both motorsport success and uncompromising road performance.
Development and Testing
Prototypes of both vehicles, distinguished by yellow-green (for the Black Series) and red (for the GT3) camouflage, have been undergoing rigorous testing since October 2025. Testing locations include Mercedes-AMG’s in-house development track in Immendingen, as well as renowned circuits like Bilster Berg, Portimão, and Monteblanco. Recently, testing commenced on the challenging Nürburgring Nordschleife, marking a crucial stage in the development process.
Mercedes-AMG GT3: Continuing a Legacy
The Mercedes-AMG GT3 represents the next evolution of the brand’s successful Customer Racing Program, which began in 2010 with the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3. The current Mercedes-AMG GT3, introduced in 2016 and updated in 2020, has established a strong track record. Development of the successor is being led by Affalterbach Racing GmbH, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Mercedes-AMG, in collaboration with Mercedes-AMG Motorsport. The goal is to build upon this legacy, setting new standards in performance, safety, and competitiveness.
The Next-Generation Black Series
According to Michael Schiebe, Member of the Board of Management of Mercedes-Benz Group AG, Production, Quality & Supply Chain Management, and Chairman of the Management Board of Mercedes-AMG GmbH, the upcoming Black Series will be the “most extreme” version yet. The CONCEPT AMG GT TRACK SPORT serves as the homologation model for the road-legal variant. Schiebe emphasized that the project represents an “unambiguous commitment to maximum performance” for both the racetrack and the road.
Leadership and Vision
Michael Schiebe, who assumed his role on the Board of Management of Mercedes-Benz Group AG on December 1, 2025, oversees the Production, Quality, and Supply Chain Management Division. He previously served as CEO of Mercedes-AMG GmbH from March 2023 until his transition to the board position.
Schiebe stated, “We are developing the most extreme Black Series ever. At the same time, we want to set the next record-breaker in motorsport with the future GT3.”
