We’ve been talking about the development of Nintendo’s ambitious Metroid Prime 4 project for a few years now. It’s actually been in production for the entire life of the Nintendo Switch since it debuted at E3 2017. Since then, major issues have arisen, forcing the project to be restarted multiple times. First there was no Retro Studios, then Bandai Namco got involved, then it was back to Retro, which kept growing in numbers and ambition until it had to look to other outside studios for clarification. It’s been more than six years since one thing led to another, and although Nintendo still lists it as “to be announced” in its financial reports, the finish line may be very close.
This week, a video surfaced on the SuperMetalDave64 channel reporting that development on Metroid Prime 4 is complete, with a support studio confirmed to be working with Retro Studios. Next-Gen Dreams 3D is a team that specializes in creating trailers and movie scenes, and has had contracts with Ubisoft and Take-Two in the past. The collaboration with Retro Studios appears in September 2022, according to the company’s CEO Portfolio, suggesting the trailer may have been completed nearly a year and a half ago.
Perhaps less grounded, but equally interesting is another piece of news about Metroid Prime 4. One tester named Edwin Aldwell claims that he has been playing demos of the game for over 10 months and reporting bugs. He even mentioned a specific bug-finding software called Jira.
These two new pieces of evidence don’t necessarily mean we’ll be officially getting a Metroid Prime 4 reveal, but we’d imagine the title would be an ideal companion for the speculative Nintendo Switch 2 launch this year.

Thanks, Nintendo Life.
